The Pumphouse Trip

posted by: Ashcroft, on 23rd May 2011

On the 4th of February we made a trip to The Pumphouse is Rotherhithe.  Four residents and three members of staff made the trip to the converted factory.

We were delighted to be greeeted with complimetary tea and cakes, before we started looking over all the remembereance exhibitions.  The museum was packed with exhibits dating from 1920’s to 1960’s.  We were welcome to pick up and look for closely at all the objects on display, as well as choosing our own music on the working jukebox.

After lunch we ventured around the outside grounds, before taking a quick tour of the downstairs museum which details the history of the site and area.

It was a very interesting trip, and was enjoyed by everyone.  Being located further into London, a couple of the residents found the landscape on our way there particulary interesting as well, having not ventured into London for some years.

On a sad note, the future of The Pumphouse is unclear as they have recently lost a large portion of their funding due to council cuts.  Let’s hope we can continue to visit them for some time to come.
